The Celebration of Pentecost

The celebration of Pentecost is a significant event in the Christian faith, commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. It is also known as the Feast of Weeks or the Feast of the Harvest, and it marks the end of the fifty days of Easter season.

Pentecost is celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter, which usually falls between May 10th and June 13th. However, the celebration of Pentecost actually begins nine days before the feast day, during which time the faithful participate in a special period of prayer and reflection called the Novena of Pentecost.

The Novena of Pentecost is a nine-day period of prayer, during which the faithful pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit and prepare their hearts to receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. The novena begins on the Friday of the sixth week of Easter, which falls on May 19th in 2023, and ends on the eve of Pentecost, May 27th.

We are looking forward to our Pentecost Vigil Event.

As we are a parish of three churches, many cultures and many music groups we don't have a common list of songs we all know.  Below are some of the songs we will be using at our Pentecost Vigil, we hope you already know some of them.  If you don't, we hope you might enjoy listening to these before you come to help familiarise yourself with them.  We hope this will make it easier for you to enter into the prayer on Saturday night.  Looking forward to having you join us!

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. John 16:13
